We
took our 21 month old Shih Tzu, Lily to the vet for her yearly booster,
we had missed the cut off date for her booster and the vet told us we
would have to re-start the vaccination, this was her second injection. The day after the second vaccination, Lily became very disorientated and started to bump into furniture, she could not see! We
took Lily back to the vet that day and were told that she had kidney
failure and that her kidneys were only 25% working, they kept her in and
the next day we were informed that she was blind and they could not be
sure if she would get her sight back, the next 48 hrs were critical. Lily remained at the vets on an intravenous drip and under heavy sedation. The
vet suggested that we take her to a specialist in Derby. We attempted
the 2 hour journey yesterday but only managed to travel for 20 minutes
when we had to turn back as Lily was having constant seizures and it was
clear that she was suffering and the kindest thing we could do for her
was to let her go. We have searched the internet and were so shocked
to see that this is not a one off and there are many cases of this
happening to dogs after being vaccinated with Eurican (Leptospirosis). Why are we not being advised that this vaccination could damage/kill our pets? Why
are we not given clear information about the effects of this
vaccination to enable us to make an informed decision whether we want
this vaccine given to our pets? We want to raise awareness. No-one should take their dog to the vet for a routine vaccination and have to put their dog to sleep 2 days later
